Dealing with loss

Unfortunately, sooner or later this sad day will hit you. We all handle grief differently, but one thing in common is the need to mourn.

Having recently losing one of my beloved birds at a young age, was upsetting. It was hard for the whole family. These little birds capture hearts so easily. My young daughter has a small hand sewn white pillow and whenever a pet dies, she writes their name on that pillow. That pillow goes to bed with her every night.

Some people turn to prayer and some people withdraw into themselves. We don't want the loss to be so seemingly final, but we do have the memories... that helps.

I have a couple of small things that I have fiound on the internet, authors unknown, that I hope will help you when the sad day comes to you.

I'll lend you a bird for a little while,
God said,
For you to love him, while he lives,
And to mourn when he is dead.

It may be for twelve or fourteen years,
Or maybe two or three,
But will you, till I call him back,
Take care of him for me?

He'll bring his charms to gladden you,
And should his stay be brief,
You'll always have his memories,
As solace for your grief.

I cannot promise that he will stay,
Since all from earth return.
But there are lessons taught below,
I want this bird to learn.

I've looked the whole world over,
In search of teachers true.
And from the folks that crowd life's land,
I have chosen you.

Now will you give him all your love,
Not think the labor was in vain,
Nor hate me when I come to take,
My lovely bird again?
